The Motor Insurers‘ Bureau of the Republic of Lithuania (hereinafter – the Bureau) is an association, operating according to the Law on Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability Insurance of the Republic of Lithuania.

The Members of the Bureau are the insurance companies authorized to perform compulsory motor third party liability insurance.

The main functions of the Bureau

The main objective of the Bureau is to implement the Law on Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability Insurance of the Republic of Lithuania. According to this Law, the Bureau performs the following functions:
1) coordinates the activities of the insurance companies related to compulsory motor third party liability Insurance;
2) ensures the development and functioning of the system of compulsory motor third party liability Insurance;
3) pays insurance benefits in cases provided in the Law on Compulsory Motor Third Party Liability Insurance of the Republic of Lithuania;
4) acts as a Compensation body, handles claims and pays compensations as required by the legal acts regulating the Green Card system;
5) acts as an Information centre;
6) organizes and coordinates international cooperation in the field of compulsory motor third party liability insurance and concludes appropriate agreements;
7) performs the functions commissioned by the Council of Bureaux.
